Sylvia Jackson is a proud Mississippian and academician. Her collegiate education began at the University of Mississippi, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She also earned her Master’s of Education from Louisiana State University. After LSU, she taught high school science in Tomball, Texas for 5 years. After careful deliberation, she began professional school at Howard University. In 2002, Sylvia received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completed a pharmacy residency from the University of Maryland the following year.
Following her love of academia, she became a faculty member of Florida A&M University for nearly 10 years. She considers herself as an honorary Rattler and dares you to say otherwise. She was named Faculty of the Year in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2016. Over her career she has published 9 articles in peer-reviewed journals; been an assistant director of pharmacy, clinical lead of pharmacy services and consultant pharmacist. She is also a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist.
She has served on the Florida State College-Jacksonville Advisory Board of Pharmacy Technician and Duval County Department Board of Diabetes Education. Sylvia is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and has served various local leadership positions within the organization. She is also a member of various pharmacy associations and diabetes organizations.
Sylvia currently lives in Jacksonville, Fl and employed by Ascension/St. Vincents as a Transitional Care Pharmacist. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her children, Christopher and Eden.
